Issue With Seat Pan

Recommended Posts

71_Bronco

Having a problem with my seat pan on my Commando 8. I put new Kenda K502 Terra Trac tires. Tires are 23x10.50-12's. I put them on the stock wheels, part number 5433, which according to the manual are 12" x 7".

The issue I'm having, is that when I lift the seat pan, they hit the tires when I lift it only a few inches. I cannot get it to open all the way with the wheels / tires on.

I'm guessing it's because the tires are larger than the stock ones, and are causing the issue.

What are my options? I was thinking about just trimming the rear of the seat pan.

I barely ever open the seat pan, as I don't store anything under there. I've just been ignoring it. It came to my attention again as I was working on the tractor putting in the 8-speed.

Thanks!

Maybe replace the rear bolts with a pin? Like a hitch pin. Clevis pin?

That way you'd be able to lift it off without needing to cut the pan.

Or - Spacers could be added to raise the pan...

Deflate the tires?  Cutting the pan not a good idea

I don’t know, but I like the idea of that thing with an 8 speed!  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Actually, replacing the shoulder bolts with pins might not be the best idea, for the fact that you have no “double shear” bracket to hold the pin from rocking.  A long bolt made to fit as a pin through both sets of holes would prevent the double shear issue from happening.

The 8-speed is in, the only thing left to do is re-build my brake band with a new liner. I found a 5060 with a 10-pinion LSD so I didn't have to change / alter the brake arrangement.

The seat is held on with a bolt from each side going through a spacer that allows the seat pan to pivot. Not sure how id add a clevis pin to that design, unless I drilled out the female thread on the tractor, put in a blind pin through the spacer, and did a cross-hole through to retain the pin from pulling out.

I have 23x10,50x12 4 ply on my C-120 with 7" rims it don't have the lift up seat pan. I have to run less air in the tires to keep them from belling up the center. Not sure what to pressure is as I check by how they sit on the ground. Iguess around 9 or 10 pounds.

Most Wheelhorses have tire pressure at 8 rear, 12 front. Some less is fine. If they're fluid-filled you need like 2 lb.

The problem with putting spacers under the pan is the locking mechanism that hold the pan down. That thing is a pain even when everything is original.
