Stupid question but why does the bracket on the back of tractor that you can put a hitch ball into move left to right about 1 inch?? Is that how it was designed???

Shouldn’t move side to side... does move up and down about an inch...

Are you missing the 1” spacer on one side of the pin?

That allows you to use a slot or clevis hitch and retain the drawbar. With no other hitch the spacers should be there. :)

so my guess is it is normal to go left to right I took it off to paint it and now that it is cleaned and back on it moves like that my other tractor does not move like that because it is rusted in place just odd that it moves 1 inch side to side like that ...

That would be better I don’t like how it slides left to right and it rubs on the trans too  bad setup I pull a small trailer but I use my other wheel horse that the hitch does not move rusted in place and I also use attachments with the hitch pin I  think I will just take the hitch off this one and find a better solution

Or put some wider spacers on it so no side to side movement

The spacers do not seem large enough... No such movement on mine (and yes they are "free" and not rusted solid!)...

I would just add spacer to both sides and call it a day...
