Need Some Help With a 416-8 With Onan Engine

I’m getting stumped with this tractor. A buddy and I think it was originally a 414 that someone put an onan on. Issue is, when I tried to get a new drive belt on, I had to use a 86 in for it to work. Put a 84 on and destroyed it. I’m trying to decide if the engine was put on in the wrong position. I know the engine is on the plate correctly, but not sure if the plate is on the tractor frame correctly. Does someone have a 416-8 that they could measure from the front of the engine plate to where the frame ends(before the front attachamattic)? That will answer if it’s in correctly. If that’s the case, what size pulleys are supposed to be on the 8 speed model? Thanks for any help.

I think the plate can only bolt on one way.  The frame holes should be the same regardless of what engine was on the tractor.  What size pulley is on the engine?  Hydro pulleys are larger.  Many Onans were used on hydro machines. That may explain the need for a larger belt.  Pictures would be helpful.  Bill

Here is how the plate bolts into a 520.

Should be the same frame.

Based off the location of those 4 holes on the rear side of the plate on the frame, it looks like the plate is mounted correctly. I’ll have to go out and measure, but from memory the pulley size on engine is around 5 inches, the transmission is around 6 inches, and the clutch pulley is around 3 inches.

To me it looks like the pulley on the engine is too big for the guard.

Pull the clutch disc and take a picture.  Pretty sure you have a hydro pulley.  Bill
