1988 310-8.  Engine cuts out/ bogs down in 2nd only slopes to the right.  Can put in 1st gear and engine does not miss a beat.  Is this a float issue? Or carb.  Any insight?

thanks!

walbro carb.  Is this a fixed jet or adjustable jet?   What should those settings be for those 2 screws?

There is an idle screw and a low speed screw... I believe the hi is fixed?  Have you replaced the fuel filte, and also the one in the tank? It might be a carb issue.

The screw thats behind the butterfly flapper is the idle speed screw....The other screw is the low speed / idle/ air screw..... There is no high speed adjustment on that carb, its a fixed jet

So in the pic the screw(on horizon) on the left is the idle speed screw?

and screw on right is low speed / idle ?

to AHS.  This tractor has no fuel filter / maybe it should.    I have recently replaced fuel pump / gasket on carb bowl and on/off valve on the gas tank

tractor starts up fine.  Runs fine but it sounds like it’s missing or coughs little

when I’m on downhill grade and angled to the right the engine cuts out and I have to mess w choke and throttle

What should I set those screws to before adjusting?  Both at 2 turns?

thx

Carb settings including float level are all in this manual.

There is a fuel “fine screen“ filter in the tank, it’s part of the shutoff. I just swapped one out in a 312 yesterday. The filthy one was still working but sometimes the Magnum 12 seemed to be starving for fuel. So new tank shutoff, all new fuel hoses front to back and I installed an in-line filter as well.
Mowed yesterday and it’s much better :handgestures-thumbupright:

If you have to mess with the choke.... take the carb off and clean it.

Thanks everyone here for all your help.  This site is very useful.  Got the beast running real well but got another real problem yesterday when mowing...   frame cracked down near gear box...  had noticed a crack a few weeks ago up under seat but did not notice frame cracks down below.  Was able to get into all gears however reverse would not allow me to stop??   Will show pics later.   I’m hoping I could get welded.

Frame cracks at the transmission plate are not all that uncommon. Here is a picture of a repair one of our members did.
