I have a 1988 416-8 I bought a 7473 belt from the dealer but I put it on and as soon as I pressed the clutch the belt popped off not sure what's going on.

It doesn't seem tight the tension pulley doesn't seem far enough up and the pedal does not feel the same

The belt In the picture looks a little tight. 7473 is the correct part number . I went through the same thing until I got the right one and it all came down to the measurement and the fact that I had a aftermarket belt that was too small. The idler pulley looks like it's too far forward.

Might be bit more than the others.
At least it would be the correct one. I

went thru three different ones before l

got an oem or toro belt that fit perfect.
I just went to eBay and typed in

wheelhors7473 oem belt. There

are three different ones for around 35 bucks.

Just to add, I too went though this with my 418. 3 belts and finally went to Toro and it fit .  It was 50 bucks but it was a half size that no one else had... Cheers
