What's It Worth?

Recommended Posts

comesfarms

Was clearing out my granparents garage and stumbled across a Commando 8 with a Wheel Horse snow plow and disc, 36" deck, and a Brinly one bottom plow. Long story short it had been sitting for 23 years and was a pain to get running but after a new battery and starter switch she runs like a top. I'm a old IH Cub Cadet guy and I have no need for this and I have no idea what this thing is worth. Ill post some pics in a bit but I just need a rough idea what these things sell for. Any input or help would be appreciated!

Pretty hard to come up with a value to be fair without pictures. Prices also vary dependent on location.

I cant tell you the value, but I can tell you that if you were closer I would ask if you wanted to trade for the Cub I just bought. Nice

For my area, these are some estimates.   I do see much higher prices, but these are what I sell these items for.

A running Commando 8         $150-250

A working 36" deck                  $100

WH disc                                   $150- 200

Brinley plow                             $100

WH dozer  blade                     $150    That appears to be a later frame that may fit a long or short frame tractor.

If you give that horse a chance, you might just find that you’d rather hang on to it! :handgestures-thumbupright:

I’ve thought about it. It’s definitely a cool piece.  It if rather sell it and put the money into a couple more mowers I can fix up and sell.

That’s a good question but check out my Commando8 . It looks like a stir up under the footboard .

According to Ed's guideline, I just about stole mine. Picked up a running Commando 800 with a 42" plow and a non WH dump cart for $75 back in 2015. It was a plow tractor all its life, and only could use 1st and reverse.

Sold the plow for $40 and the cart for $30. Too bad the "Husher" muffler was in such bad condition - it had a great sound.

I would say about 550-600 is a realistic price for the whole shabang :-)

I guess I stole mine as well. I paid $250 for mine, with a 36" gear-drive deck, and a 42" plow & frame.

I don't know if the running boards were an option, but the manual shows the cast foot-rests

Here's mine with a TSC seat and a set of Kenda K502 Terra Trac tires (added by me)

I agree with this right here. These little Commandos are tough little buggers, and the K181's are plenty powerful.

The gear-drive decks cut really nicely, but parts are a bit of a pain to find. I have 3 decks that I'm stripping down and merging into one, with all new bearings, belts, etc.

Could you also post a pic of the back? Looks like your implements are set up for a slot hitch, which is nice to have.

Jeff, is that a stock 181 turning a 48" deck?     :confusion-confused:

I got this tractor along with a charger 12 from the same place . I believe it was on the charger and that deck is rust free from what I remembered.

Ed's prices are probable a good range dor seeling items individually. When you sell it all together it seems you get about half value for the implements.

Also have to factor in time-frame. Are you looking to dump quick? Or hold out for that perfect buyer to get every penny?

Yep, everything is only worth what someone is willing to pay .

I have bought several running tractors at estate sales for $5.

But I also paid $1600 for a tractor that I planned to pay $500 for.      But another buyer wanted it almost as much as I did.

Ohhh yeah, the perfect little tractor! Have no idea why these units are not valued more.

The was the second W-H added to my little collection here.20200817_160600.jpg.9405fa260395c163d46aba1f17bb468b.jpg

Still got it, absolutely love this tractor, and definitely not because it was free!

I agree with you on that, these early square hoods are sharp, I am having fun getting the commando 6 back together, glad I decided to tear it apart

What's the running k181 worth out of the running commando 8?
