Jrodgers04 43 #1 Posted August 12, 2020 I picked up this C-141 hydro several years ago with the sole purpose of plowing a small suburban driveway, a task she's done perfectly. This summer we dropped a camper up on some remote family property in Maine. Previously the lawn had been taken care of by landscapers, but I saddled her with a 42" rear discharge deck and took over 3 or so acres, including some paths through the fields for the kids. Needless to say she has performed flawlessly. I tried to research this but couldn't find a firm answer: can I stick a 60" deck on C-141? The attachment mechanisms look the same to me, but I'm sure one of you knows conclusively. Thanks, Jon IMG_9342.1.mov 5
ebinmaine 72,993 #2 Posted August 12, 2020 Beautiful picture. Where in Maine? Looks like pretty far up north judging by the distance of the hills. You can put a 60" deck on that but ONLY if you swap over to the axle that is on a 520 which has a forward sweep. Maybe other things....
Ed Kennell 42,176 #3 Posted August 12, 2020 You can up grade to a 48" deck w/o any mods to the 141. The 14HP will handle the 48" deck, but I would wonder if 14HP is enough to turn a 60" deck. The 60"ers are usually powered by 20+ HP.
c-series don 10,146 #4 Posted August 12, 2020 Like Eric said, you would have to change the front axle to the forward swept kind from a 520. Also like Ed said, usually the 60” deck is run by a 20hp and if you didn’t mow very often I don’t think the 14hp would be enough. I believe it takes 2-3hp just to run the hydro transmission. The 78-79 C-Series tractors are my favorite, I have almost all of them! 1
Stepney 2,354 #5 Posted August 12, 2020 It could be made to fit.. just change that front axle. A 16hp Kohler will swing a 60" with a manual trans. A 14 with a hydro .. I dont know. Would be awful hard on the engine.
Jrodgers04 43 #6 Posted August 17, 2020 Thanks guys. I certainly don’t want to push it. Found a 60” gang reel tow behind. Going to experiment with that. Any recommendations on what spacers/mechanisms to get to convert to rear duallies? I have an extra matching set of rear tires/wheels and have always wanted to try it out.
ronhatch 406 #7 Posted August 17, 2020 I don't think that's the type of mowing a reel mower is designed for. I would suggest a pull behind self powered rotary mower, maybe a 48" or more??? You would make quick work of the 3 + acres of grass with the C-141 and a pull behind unit.
Jrodgers04 43 #8 Posted August 17, 2020 Totally agree, ronhatch. I'm mowing a normal lawn not seen in the pic. The pic is just a fun pic of the tractor in the field below the lawn with some paths maintained by my 42" deck.

I'm not great at searching but there's a few threads on here with good info. Personally I'd go with 12" PVC pipe between the wheels. Keeps the grass and dirt out from the area for the most part. Appropriate length bolts or threaded rod to squeeze the whole thing together.
