Reddart 212 #1 Posted July 30, 2020 I’m getting some oil sweeping out of the governor shaft, and other places on my engine. I’m thinking servicing the breather would be a good thing to do. What would this entail? Cleaning, replacing the filter, new gaskets I assume....anything else I should do? this is for a C-101 if that makes a difference. The Tuul Crib 7,339 #2 Posted July 30, 2020 That definitely sounds like that needs to be done. If it were mine I would while you were in there adjust the valves. To do all that the carb would also need to come off.
oliver2-44 10,715 #3 Posted July 30, 2020 if its a newer to me tractor, by the time I pull the carb to get to the breather and adjust the valves. From there I know it not much more work, so I usually find myself pulling the head to decarbon, then I pull the valves to decarbon the stems. Reassemble and I khow everything on the top end is as good as I can get it.
tunahead72 2,545 #4 Posted July 30, 2020 It's not a bad idea to clean and possibly rebuild the carb while you have it off. Also, pay careful attention to how the breather is assembled before you start taking it apart. They've been known to be reassembled incorrectly, which would possibly cause some of the oil weeping you're seeing. There's a diagram in the Kohler service manual that shows you how it's supposed to look.
