12Horse Paladin 1,038 #1 Posted July 26, 2020 (edited) Mornin. Wondering if a Kohler Magnum 20 would be able to be swapped into a Workhorse 1142 without toomuch hassle? I do have the original Briggs engine, to get parts if needed, to make the swap. The Magnum would be comming out of a Craftsman 6000... Also...im pretty sure i know the answer, but checking...would this be a good one to switch to? I know even less about the Magnums than i do the k-series. Thanks for any input, or advice. pfrederi 18,670 #2 Posted July 26, 2020 What is diameter of the crankshaft for your Briggs and for the Magnum??? I am going guess the Craftsman Magnum will not have a thrust bearing. so you will have to try to transfer the extermal thrust bearing from your Briggs to the Magnum. If I am correct on this, it will not work at all in your Work Horse.

953 nut 59,990 #5 Posted July 26, 2020 Kohler twin vertical shaft engines can be converted to be used in a horizontal configuration but there will need to be several changes made. The oil dip stick, intake manifold oil pump pick-up, breather vent, valve lifter well drains and oil drain location are items that come to mind. Also, the crankshaft tends to be quite a bit longer on the vertical crank engines. There are a few rater poor tutorials on the internet about this. If you do this please share pictures and information with us.
