bo dawg 517 #1 Posted May 12, 2009 I know its been a topic here before, (sorry bringing it up again) changing the trans fluid on a automatic drive and the manual says type A transmission fluid. What is type A? Most of my other tractors I converted to 10w30 oil. But on this one I thought I would keep it red.
linen beige 15 #2 Posted May 12, 2009 Type A is still available at some farm supply stores. Dexron II and Dexron III are suitable substitutes. I wouldn't convert to engine oil if it has ATF in it, or vice versa. Unless you're tearing it all the way down it's too hard to be sure you get all the old fluid out and they don't mix very well. bo dawg 517 #3 Posted May 12, 2009 Thank you Jim that is exactly what I needed to know The very first one I did convert had that problem. Although right after I switched it and fired her up she came leaping out of the stable. But was mild after that, ran a lot cooler though.
