P218g - Intermittent Oil Pressure Light

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is appropriate for Engines or Electrical sub-forum.

Used my 518H today to mow front yard. Oil is pretty clear, not that dirty and slightly above the Full mark on the stick.

About 15min to 20min into mowing the front, I noticed the oil pressure warning light was flashing. Throttled down immediately. Oil pressure light went off not too long after. Throttled up again, light stayed off. Mowed some more, oil pressure light came back on. Kept mowing. It went off within 30sec. Continued mowing, came back on a few minutes later. Went off again. This process repeats itself but I think mostly stopped right before I finished one half of the front yard.

The oil pressure sensor is new from last year.

The other issue I notice is that if I throttle all the way down and get below I think 1000-1200RPM, the oil light flashes persistent until I throttle back up slightly.

Any ideas?

I would install a real piped pressure gauge to see what is going on.

Good idea.

I have an oil pressure tester. Although it would be hard to run it with it installed because of the metal shroud.

Anyway, I had to shut off the tractor for maybe 15min to fix a loose blade, and the entire other 30 to 45min it takes to mow the other half of the front yard (the first part takes 30min also), the oil light didn't flash again.

I have a 520hc that does similar. The oil light flashes constantly when you start it and it's cold. It will flash constantly no matter how long you let it run. But if you shut it off and start it back up, it doesn't flash again (unless key on, engine off of course).
