Head Gasket Question

Recommended Posts

71_Bronco

Just got in a gasket set for my K181 that I am working on for the Commando 8-8, and have a question.

On the head gasket, it does NOT have the solid metal edging on the inner opening like the head gasket on my K321. I got a similar kit for my K321 in my Bronco 14, and that kit has the metal edging I am referring to.

I found some gaskets on ePay that have the metal edging on the inside of the gasket, and some without.

Is the K181 okay to run this gasket on? Or should I spend the couple extra bucks on a gasket with the inner metal edging?

Below is a pic of the K181 gasket I got, and the K321 gasket.

I think that's the only way you can get a small block gasket now. Run it!

I found some K181 gaskets with the ring on ePay, not sure if it would be worth it to get one of those.

Why would the big blocks need it but the small blocks not? Lower compression ratios?

About the same compression ratio. Most aftermarket head gaskets don't have the ring and I have not had any problem with them.

That gasket should work just fine.
