Onan oil pressure

Recommended Posts

I bought a gauge that’s supposed to be 0-25 but the engine almost pegs the gauge at idle. No numbers on the gauge, cheap china... so what should it be? I thought like 8 psi. I have a nice SW 0-50 I might use instead

thanks, T

I have a rather accurate gauge installed on mine. Pressure depends also on how cold or hot the oil is. Cold it will peg it at 25. Specs I believe are a minimum of 8PSI at idle. Mine never has less than 18 at idle and it will go to about 38 at full throttle.

Ok thank you. I think I'll try the Stewart Warner gauge.

I bought a cheap, emphasis on everything meant by that term, compression gauge set at HF because I wanted the adaptors above the old pressure seal one I've prized since a teen. I was excited to be able to measure my old 70s Honda compression. Hell!!! this engine is shot - read about 90 psi on all cylinders. What, 10,000 miles and runs well but shot? I attached it to my nice new Suzuki 1200 and just about the same - just junk. 5% error is nice, but 50%? Nice to have the adaptors, though. Calibration doesn't mean much nowadays...makes me wonder about that HVAC gauge set now...
