Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how the foot brake on a charger 12 works or what goes wrong with them the rod attached to the pedal moves when you depress the brake but does not stop or slow the machine I took the cover off the middle where the controls are to see if I could figure it out but I cannot figure out how it works.   any advice or what to look for would be great   thanks for the help

If it's anything like my 1076 or C160, it's not actually a brake . All it does is put the transmission into neutral. I do believe, but I have been wrong before :laughing-rolling:

There is a pin that goes into a cam inside the tunnel where the motion controller is. Your owner manual has an adjustment procedure

Look in that tunnel again.  You'll see a funny lookin' plate like this.  Either it has come apart, or the spring is broken.

The PERMANENT solution is to put the return spring on the outside of the hoodstand...like in this photo.

I have this flat plate and spring for sale on Ebay now.  it is item # 133406167292

If the Tow valve hasn't moved in a while start by spraying it with penetrating oil every day for a week, then try to move it just a little. Then continue spraying it every day, and every few days try to move it. Every wiggle is progress..

It does move but there are no markings or anything  to show the correct location

On my electro 12 the little handle on tow valve points towards the front of tractor to drive, 180 degrees counter clockwise the handle points to rear of tractor for push/tow. I am pretty sure they are the same if yours is sunstrand hydro.

Charger 12 has Sundstrand HydroGear model 90-2046 and the TOW VALVE is pictured here in the WORKING position.   Give it 1/4 turn (90 deg) EITHER WAY to all for SLOW towing of the tractor.  A second pic is of the Valve itself.  If it is stuck ()usually is after 50 years) remove the ENTIRE valve assembly using crescent wrench on the HEX plug.  Then clean it up and use some anti-sieze on the screw threads.
