Wheeel Horse Hub caps

Recommended Posts

fritz

Well I have an oppertunity to get Wheel Horse hub caps that are on a Horse. He wouldnt sell just the hubcaps so I got to try to get the whole horse :omg: But the hub caps are Wheel Horse. They will fit my 312Hydro. I was just wondering if the hub caps are worth much?? They seem to be a dull silver. not chrome just silver. one in the rear has a small ding in it. the rest seem to be in dcent shape. Are theyworth much?? Or should I hold off on getting them?? The tractor they are on is a 257 Hydro. It has transmission problems. So the tractor aint worth much but I didnt know if the hubc aps were.

Thank ya

Devin

There are two different kinds of steel hubcaps, and one type that is painted plastic.

The two steel types are the most valuable- if they are in good shape.

The steel caps fetch between $50 and $150 on fle-bay depending on condition, and desire. Haven't seen the plastic ones yet. Good luck, I've been patient for about 1.5 years, and still have no caps. :omg:

Just remember I think the fronts on that tractor are 6" not 8"

I guess I'm lucky I have 7 sets of the old style with the redheads, and 5 or 6 sets that say wheel horse on them, I paid $150 for a nice set of the old style, and as little as $20 for 3 sets. :omg:

I just reread your post, I think your 312 has 6" fronts so should work.

Devin,

If it runs, that 17 horse Kawasaki on that 257 can be resold for probably more than you'll pay for the tractor...would make your investment in the hubcaps a lot less. I think the same engine was used in a bunch of Deere lawn tractors.

The electric clutches seem to fetch plenty on eBay too. The decks are only for that series of tractor, but you can replace the hangers from a C-style deck to convert one to more conventional operation.

It's been a while that I looked, but I think the 250 series uses an Eaton 7 (or is it a 700?) hydrostatic pump with a horizontal input shaft just like on the 300 series WH tractors. The belt from the vert shaft engine makes a big turn over a bunch of idlers in the back end of the thing to convert it to a horiz arrangement. Might not be too hard to find a replacement for it...transmission problems are pretty common on this series of tractor by the way and th engines generally outlast the rest of the tractor.

My point is if you have the time and space, you can probably get the hubcaps at no cost...

Steve
