Breather Plate Filter Help

Recommended Posts

Rustyred

Hi,

I am overhauling an old K181 engine and the breather filter material under the breather plate is in horrible shape. Is a new filter available anywhere? Or if I clean and reinstall the old does it not matter much? It seems a previous owner folded it up and jammed it back in when he had it open.

If the breather filter is not in perfect shape will this affect how my engine runs?

Thanks guys for helping out!!

Can;t imagine it would have a big effect on the engine running,  Long term ??  If not necessary why is it there???

The way a breather element was explained to me is that it is made of a type and shape and coarseness of material that helps to catch the oil vapors and turn them into droplets. The droplets then return to the engine crankcase whenever they're ready.

Short-term emergency? Probably not.

Long-term? Well you're probably going to have a very interesting oil spill on the outside of the breather after a while.
