Horse Play 393 #1 Posted July 12, 2020 I am 95% finished on a complete restoration on my RJ58. It was really rough and missing quite a few parts and now there are a few things I am stumped on with fitment. Shift Lever - with the seat in the forward hole of the seat spring, the shift lever hits the seat when using reverse and first gear. Surely this cannot be be normal. All the parts in question look RJ correct, so I am not quite sure was going on here. I currently have the seat in the rear position, but feels too far back when I ride the tractor. Belt Guard - I am using a repo belt guard and seems to fit great. I am using 1-1/2" spacers and a few washers to space the guard away from the pulleys. The K91 crank shaft comes through 1/2" outside the guard, leaving not much shaft to install the second engine pulley (3/4" thick) for attachments. Was this originally the way the tractors were, or is my K91 crankshaft too short? Thanks for any help, I am sure I will have more questions.
wallfish 18,242 #2 Posted July 12, 2020 If needed you can bend the shifter rod if you need to use that forward hole for the seat. Many times the seat spring is bent down which makes it feel like you're falling off the back. It can be a little dangerous to open the spring as the tension can shoot that spring out hard but it can be done with a floor jack and some safety measures. The belt guard should fit close the pulleys and the engine shaft should be long enough for the second pulley. Original RJ pulleys did not use a "hub" as such, the set screw hole is in the groove of the pulley so maybe that's where the issue is Post some pics of what you have so we can see what's going on.
