Tooomuch7 52 #1 Posted July 12, 2020 Hi everyone, new here,I’ve been looking over the site, what a great place! I have a 2000 518H the last two or three times I’ve been mowing the battery light stays on for about 10-15 minutes then goes out,the battery is less than a year old,was wondering if someone could lead me in the right direction before I tear into this thing. Hate to take something apart that I don’t have to.Thanks.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #3 Posted July 12, 2020 This is likely a 518xi model 73471. They use a voltage comparitor module that we often hear fails. About all you can do is check with voltmeter and clean and tighten wire connections to see if that corrects it. Here is a service manual for the model I think this is the module Garry
Tooomuch7 52 #4 Posted July 12, 2020 Your right,it’s a 518xi,my mistake. Thanks for the info,My guess is this is just going to get worse,so do they sell this part? I will look for it and clean it first though just like you said. Thanks again .
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #5 Posted July 12, 2020 Less expensive at this place but now wondering why the wiring diagrams don't match the part description. https://www.psep1.biz/arinet.asp#/s/TO//99-1933/1/ It shows up on the Air Cooled Engine Assembly page of the tractor parts list. Item #4 will give you an idea of where it is located. It could be the battery is getting weak and a bit slower to recover after a start. Watching the voltage before and after a start till the light goes out may tell what is happening. I would be adding a voltmeter for a lot less than the cost of the module. Tooomuch7 52 #8 Posted July 12, 2020 Just messed with the tractor, with the tractor off,the volt meter is reading 13(battery was bought in January)started the tractor put the volt meter back on it went to 14,ran the tractor until the battery light went out(which was about 5 minutes today)put the volt meter back on it,still reading 14 volts,so I guess it is charging ok.
