GEnd 7 #1 Posted July 11, 2020 All- looking at a couple of rigs, both with around 1000 hours of run time, similarly priced. Based on the serial # of the tractor and manufacturing date of the engine, I think the Kawasaki in the Lxi has the plastic camshaft gear that is known to fail. I like the idea of the liquid cooled engine but at 1000 hours would I be better off with the 522xi and the air cooled Kohler? I don’t need a rebuild project quite yet. If I had more time on my hands I might pick the Lxi if I could get the right price. Your experience with the plastic geared Kawasaki engine will help me. Thanks! Berco 13 #2 Posted July 14, 2020 i have both. my LXI is still running strong at 400 hours with no rebuilds yet. My 522XI needed new gaskets and seals at about 1000 hours. Pick your poison as i would think the plastic cam vs the gaskets would take the same amount of time.
