867 died while cutting

Recommended Posts

My 867 was cutting beautifully today.  But after about 35 minutes of cutting, I reduced the throttle to a minimum (to hear what my youngest boy had to say).  That's when the engine sputtered out and wouldn't start.

When I turn the key there's nothing.  I checked the battery and even with it connected to a booster, nothing turned over when I turned the key.

I know the main areas to check are air, fuel, and spark.  But I'm so new at this I don't quite know where to begin.  Any suggestions?

air fuel and spark ...but first you need the engine to turn over..  Jump a heavy cable from the battery + to the "A" terminal on the S/G  ( terminal with two wires one heavy on it)  Should spin the engine.  if not S/G has an issue.. If it does spin over start with checking the igniton switch

I'll try it!  Am I right in understanding that "S/G" stands for "Starter Generator"?

And also make sure that the ground wire from the (-) terminal of the battery is securely connected to both the battery and the frame. A bad ground can be a common problem.

Bob, you nailed it.  While I was looking at the S/G I noticed that the ground wire to the frame was hanging loose.  I found the bolt (thankfully) and with a spare washer got it all back together.  It fired right up and I drove it back to the shed!

Thank you again, pfrederi and Bob!
