Alex175 784 #2 Posted June 24, 2020 I recently bought one to have as a spare for my KT17 and KT19 that are in my blackhoods, it looks nearly identical, only major difference is the choke cable flange there where your cable connects is facing down, where it should be facing up. So in order to properly use it, you would probably need to use the shaft and plate out of your old carburetor, otherwise your cable won't route properly and your choke lever would be reversed. I am not sure if you would have the exact same issue that I ran into, but that's what I saw on my KT17 and KT19. Additionally I should note that I did not buy mine through isavetractors, but in that picture it looks like it includes another shaft that could be used for the purpose that I am describing, it looks like they provide both options. Some of us have had really good luck using the Chinese cheap aftermarket carbs but I am not one of them. They advertise that the fit k241-k341 or KT and M models. yes they may fit but they fitting and being functional are not the same. You bring up another point right there. I don't have the measurements off the top of my head but I bought one for a k341. The internal bore was substantially smaller than the stock piece. If the OP is looking for a carburetor that's going to fit a 17 horse, you may end up with the bore of a 10 or 12 horse. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

WillP 1 #7 Posted June 25, 2020 Ok thanks for the replys. I have already stripped and cleaned mine twice, just cant get it to run smooth. I have been though everything else it could be. I've got a methodology to the way I clean and rebuild those now so I can usually get it right the first time, but I've had carburetors I've needed to rebuild two, three, four times before I was happy with them. It's a little challenging sometimes but I've tried aftermarket and won't go back that direction again. Can you post a video of the tractor while it's running rough? The gap on the ignition points also sets the ignition timing and some periodic attention to them can be very helpful. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Bill D 2,248 #10 Posted June 25, 2020 (edited) Start with a compression check on both cylinders. 90 psi or better is good. Make sure the throttle is wide open while checking. Replace the points and condenser and set the timing with a timing light as shown in the manual on the Kohler website. Be sure to put the screws for the points cover back in while adjusting the points with the engine running. New plug wires and plugs are a good idea as well. I ran a 6 gauge wire from the ground on the tractor frame by the battery to the engine starter to ground the motor for better starting and hotter spark.
