Sounds like the transmission is not returning to the neutral position.

Download this file, it should be very helpful.   Couple years older than yours but the transmission and brakes would be the same.

It doesn't matter how much you push on the brake, if the transmission is still in forward it keeps going. That's why it's important to make sure that the linkage is returning to neutral as soon as you start braking.

I'd also check the belt it sounds like the clutch pedal isnt working right. Something is out of wack

A hydro doesn't have a clutch.  Obviously the motion lever isn't returning to neutral when the brake pedal is pushed, the manuals above should show the adjustment.  My brakes are like new on hydro tractors, the hydro does nearly all the braking.

Is it a total different setup on the 520 then my daughters 69 electro 12? I have a video i did on how to adjust the neutral position on the tranny on my YouTube channel.

Totally different, you adjust the cam that rides in the cam plate, and if needed, the linkage.
