munsonRN 0 #1 Posted May 9, 2009 I recently purchase my first wheelhorse tractor. I LOVE this thing. Still tinkering with it....blades, belts, fluids, etc.... It's a 417A. Runs great. No smoking. Appears garage kept as the body and deck are in great shape. Picked it up for a smidge over $400. I'm looking forward to many years of use. More questions to come as I KNOW I will have some soon, but first ....ON TO THE PICS.

munsonRN 0 #13 Posted May 11, 2009 Of course I'm posting pics. I'm a proud new owner and had to show her off. A few minor issues to take care of, but she mows great.
Duff 206 #14 Posted May 11, 2009 A few minor issues to take care of, but she mows great. From what I see in the pics, the issues must indeed be "minor." Great looking machine! And hey - it's tinkering on these rigs that make 'em grow on us. This is your first? Watch out - they go forth and multiply!!!!! Duff :omg:
munsonRN 0 #15 Posted May 11, 2009 Yeah, nothing major that I can tell. I just replaced the fuel line as it was cracked pretty bad. New deck belt also. Now, what I'm looking for is the "quadrant" that attaches to the deck to allow height adjustment. The one on the deck has broken. I also need the lever for the deck height adjustment. Any ideas on where to source these parts? Or, does anyone have any extras lying around they would part with? I've found the part numbers but toro doesnt seem to have them available on their site. The only other question now is what type of oil to use where. I've read different things. Some say straight 30 weight when using the tractor above 32 degrees. Some say 10w-30. Both for the hydro and the engine oil. Thoughts anyone? Told you guys I would have some questions. :omg:

kfleser 0 #17 Posted May 12, 2009 :omg: I also have a 417-A. Sure is a nice unit. Lotsa power and mows like a dream. I just changed oil in the motor and tranny. In the motor I use a high quality 30w, and in the tranny a 10W-30. That is what the owners manual recommends.
MaineDad 87 #18 Posted May 12, 2009 Welcome to the most addicting tractor brand! Have fun and do not be afraid to ask questions, we've all been there and are glad to help.
Buzz 502 #19 Posted May 12, 2009 Nice 'Horse, nice price . I might as well hook you up to some manuals to get you started. First thing is your tractor is either a 1985 (model # 31-17KE01) or a 1986 (model # 31-17KE02). Find out which one you have and use that model number when ordering parts or looking up information. Once you have your number go to Toros MPv for a parts breakdown, specs., and what attachments were available for it. Click here: https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro You can download some manuals for it from Toro but you'll have to order the operators manual and parts manual from them. Put your model number in the first box and put "none" for serial number: https://lookup3.toro.com/request/request.cfm Finally here's your engine manual: http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/tp_2043_a.pdf Good luck and have fun.
