I was wondering what tractors came powered with a Briggs&Stratton engines ? I have a chance to get a C-85 black hood that has the kohler 8 hp totally remove it was like someone was in a hurry to take the engine cut everything unbolted and left leaving the tractor an mower deck behind. Anyway I have a 12.5 Briggs I/C nos electric start now never been started that think would work nicely.

The Work Horse's were the only garden tractors that I know of with a Briggs engine. A lot of the lawn tractors came with a Briggs. How ever it should not take much work to fit your 12.5hp Briggs into a C-85. Keep us up to date on your progress.

They were also available in 1978. This is my dad’s. I have it now. The story goes that because of the Kohler twin reliability issues Wheel Horse decided to use the Briggs twin instead and had to modify the hood to make it fit. My dad installed the metal seat pan a year after he bought it when the original broke.  This has been a great tractor and has nothing done to it but fluid changes and some tires. I painted the wheels when I got it and dad would always rattle can the tractor here and there any time it got a scratch on it. It looks good from about 20 feet but you can tell when you get closer.105259E9-21CB-4481-A33E-DDDA98F375AB.thumb.jpeg.dc24d0d7ff1192a6946e0b00db96440e.jpeg69026752-385A-4B91-ADC5-B8B29F75521F.thumb.jpeg.39d3b87cd7b9d95c6cfa9c793333c2ef.jpeg

Wheel Horse used a steel plate and ball bearing to take the pressure off the engine bearings on the C-111. Look up the parts for the C-111 on Parts Tree and there is a picture of the plate and bearing.

The B&S engines will not take the pressure the manual pto exerts on the crankshaft. Must use an electric pto or add a thrust bearing behind the engine pulley. Here is a picture of it

You may need to check the ignition switch also to make sure it is wired the same for the BS engine. I did a swap on one from a BS to a Kolher  and had to change out the key ignition switch.
