Kerley 3 #1 Posted June 14, 2020 (edited) Mower deck on 314 drops when held up with hydro lever. Does this mean hydrolics have a problems Edited June 15, 2020 by Kerley word misspelled
bc.gold 3,406 #2 Posted June 14, 2020 (edited) Could be a number of things causing the deck to drop, bad cylinder seal on the ram piston, rusted and pitted inside the lift cylinder, broken detente spring not holding the spool on centre, dirt in the spool. Kerley 3 #3 Posted June 21, 2020 Thanks for the info. How much could it cost to fix this problem? Is the parts still available I wonder.

Is the lift handle self centering when you turn loose of it. I had the other problem mine would lift when hitting a rough place.
dalez 139 #5 Posted June 22, 2020 Does it happen right away or over a period of time like overnight?

lynnmor 7,823 #8 Posted June 22, 2020 Did you check the oil level for the hydro? Check the lift valve to see if the linkage moves and holds correctly. I have rebuilding kits for the cylinder if needed. Is there oil leaking from the cylinder?
Kerley 3 #9 Posted June 22, 2020 No it’s not leaking oil . How much are the kits to rebuild it? It is full of oil.
Kerley 3 #10 Posted June 22, 2020 I have never worked on a wheel horse. Is there a manual to give directions to get to the lift and cylinder?

It is full of oil. $25.27 mailed to you, my kits are the most complete I have ever seen. The usual failure is leakage, so check other things before doing the cylinder. The lift valve is a very simple device that is a pain to remove, but it only takes an o-ring to restore performance. I wonder if you have a mechanical problem like the linkage moving the lift valve. Go to the Manuals section of this site and download the Owners manual, Parts List, Wiring Diagram and Engine Manual. You probably won't find detailed instructions for most mechanical repairs. When you need help, do your homework first, then come back here and describe exactly what you need, photos are worth a thousand words. Folks here will be glad to give their best advice if you give it your best try.
Kerley 3 #13 Posted June 23, 2020 I cannot find a manual for a 314 hydro. I see a 312 but not 314 h but I will keep looking
cleat 7,259 #14 Posted June 23, 2020 You say it drops while mowing ? Why is the hydraulic system holding the deck up while mowing. You should be able to fully lower the deck then use the deck height lever to set cut height. Wheel horse uses a floating deck that rides on the rear wheels of the deck. About the only time I use the lift while mowing is to raise the deck a bit going over rough spots with rocks and stumps sticking up. If I park the machine with the deck raised then it sure isn't by the time I get back to it. Hydraulic lift is nice and I love it but do not expect it to hold for extended periods. Even the front end loader on my big diesel tractor does not stay up indefinitely.
Kerley 3 #15 Posted June 26, 2020 I understand it may not be to hold deck up while mowing but if it starts dropping while mowing but it should not drop in 15 mIn when parked unless the seal is letting pressure by. I have friends with tractors and they can lift stuff with front bucket and it doesn’t drop unless they lower it. I understand also they lower the bucket to not keep pressure on seals constantly. I have driven fork lifts and they didn’t drop unless I lowered forks. So I am not completely ignorant about hydrolices . Lol

Remove left footrest. Remove left side panel. Remove brake pedal. Remove clevis pin and oil lines. Clean up everything. Allow about 10 minutes for each operation.
