Determining stator size

Recommended Posts

I’m installing a k301 off of a 312-8 on to a B-80    I would like to use the regulator and amp gauge from the B-80 but don’t know if it’s compatible with the stator on the 12 hp.  I’ve looked at Kohler manual on how to test stators but I don’t know what amp stator I have    Also I think the 312-8 had a volt gauge which further complicates matters

Depending on the year 312 it probably has a voltage regulator mounted in the flywheel cover. You would be much better off using a volt meter rather than an amp meter. If your B-80 has a battery powered ignition system and the 312  has a magneto you will need to ad a relay to the ignition system.

If he has K-301 like he posted off a 1985 312-8 it has a battery and points.

:confusion-confused:              Where in this post did he say it was a 1985?

He didn't say a 1985, but he clearly said K-301.

The 312-8 I had was I believe an 85or 86    I think after that they were magnums.   Mine is a k-series

Yes I do believe the magnum came in about 1987 maybe as early as 1986

pre. My 312-8 was a 1986 model and that was a K-series motor.

I’m retaining the bat/coil ignition. I’ve had it running but haven’t hooked up stator yet.  Just want to be sure the stator and regulator/amp gauge are compatible
