ljcollinsvt 1 #1 Posted June 11, 2020 So I got this older 520 H for a steal and now I am attempting to give it the proper life that it deserves. The problem is that all the stickers that would help to give me a clue to identification of model of tractor and Onan engine are faded to the point of not being readable. What clues do I use to determine the model numbers for this.. I believe that he Onan is a P220 but not 100% sure on that and I am guessing that the 520 H is a 31-20OE01 but again I have no way to prove this. Thank you for the help. Chaz54 75 #6 Posted June 11, 2020 1988 and 1989 will have a maroon stripe decal package. If it is a 1988, it will have a tapered knob at the end of the motion control lever and the start key will be on the right hand side. If it is a 1989, it will have a round ball type knob at the end of the motion control lever and the key start will be on the left hand side. 1990 will have forward swept axle and 1" dia. front axle spindles and black stripe decal package. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ljcollinsvt 1 #7 Posted June 11, 2020 Okay if its true that a picture is worth a thousand words I probably have run far over my allowance for today but this is the diamond in the rough that will soon be my number one tractor. While I am at it can anyone tell me if this Onan has points or is it solid state? I see a condenser but someone help me with finding the points... Thanks for all the help. L. Onan is a P220G. To determine the correct spec number locate the "Stamped" in the block serial number. Seven digits, 1234567. No dash - marks. Not casting numbers, 170-1234 etc. It's either behind the carb or on the starter side of block. Might have dirt, grease etc. covering them up. Electronic ignition models the points box location typically will have a block off plate in place. This is where to look. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I have a database that can cross most Onan serial numbers to the full model and spec numbers. 1942-2000. :) 40+ years experience with Onan's.
