John A 22 #1 Posted June 10, 2020 I have a 2005 Classic GT, model 73450, serial number 250000717. Recently the switch which senses the transmission is in neutral has been acting up. Tonight it failed and appears to have separated from the shiftier. Can someone give me the part number. I did not see it on the parts diagrams I have checked. And is there a way to at least temporally bypass this switch to allow me to start the engine. I embarrassed the Classic by towing it tonight with my 1986 308-8. Thanks John A
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,269 #2 Posted June 10, 2020 Is it item # 41 on this page? Click on the long link to see the illustration. SWITCH-REED, MAGNETIC Part# 95-7669 https://www.partstree.com/models/73450-315-8-toro-garden-tractor-sn-250000001-250999999-2005/hoodstand-and-console-assembly-20/ Garry
John A 22 #3 Posted June 10, 2020 Gary, Thank You. That looks like the part. I hope to remove the seat and the plate shift (16) today for better access. I am hoping the switch can be reattached to the gear shift as I think it may have just slipped off. I was surprised the part is listed under Hood and Console. I was thinking electric section or starter. Duh! John A
lynnmor 7,604 #4 Posted June 10, 2020 Hope your switch isn't knackered. Most switches have a part number on them from the manufacturer making it possible to bypass Toro high prices. While I never bought that switch, I did buy all the switches on my tractors for pennies on the dollar.
John A 22 #5 Posted June 10, 2020 There is a item on the rod of the gear shift lever that snaps in place. It had come off and fell onto the top of the transmission case. The plastic of this item has some damage. But if I hold it closet to what I assume is the switch reed, I can turn over the engine. I think some electric tape may hold this item secure to the shift lever. So, what is the item and under which diagram would it be listed? It is about 1 1/2" in length and maybe 5/8 diameter. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,269 #6 Posted June 10, 2020 Is the clip item #8? https://www.partstree.com/models/73450-315-8-toro-garden-tractor-sn-250000001-250999999-2005/transaxle-assembly-26/ Garry
John A 22 #7 Posted June 10, 2020 Hi Gary, Yes it is. I was able to run a piece of e- tape around the clip and shift rod and still have the starter engage to turn the engine over to start. So, I still need to reassemble everything I removed and test the tractor for cutting. The switch underneath the seat, which allows you to go backwards needs to be replaced. I have dealt with issues with it before. A very hot day to fuss with tractor. Thanks to Gary and Lynnmor for your comments and help. John A
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,269 #8 Posted June 10, 2020 More than likely you will need to find parts again. I have used this Toro site for years. I am surprised it still works. https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro Enter your model number 73450 They will all come up. Serial number determines the model year. Select "Assembly Drawings". On the first page that opens on the right side is "Find a part". Click it. A box will open and type in switch or whatever you are looking for. All the switches and switch parts will open in a new window with the page that contains that part number. Click on the page picture and it will open. I can see this being used a lot as Toro's idea of an illustrated parts list has changed. Garry
