JAinVA 4,638 #2 Posted June 9, 2020 If the tie rod ends are tight and there is not egg shaped mounting holes in them the the play is most likely in the hubs,bearing or spindles.Jack up each side and pull the wheels and see what you find.We can't tell much from assembled greasy parts. Ed Kennell 42,187 #3 Posted June 9, 2020 Yeah, like Jim said, Jack up the sloppy side and push the wheel left and right to find the play. Could be worn socket in a tie rod ends or a loose bolt on a tie rod end.. These ends can be replaced. It may also be a badly worn spindle or wheel bearing. These can also be replaced. There may also be play in the steering fan gear and the bushings in both steering rods, but this would affect both wheels. Based on your description of the problem, I would look for a loose bolt that attaches the tie rod to the spindle lever or to the steering fan lever. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rustyedge1 176 #4 Posted June 9, 2020 I'm attaching a 40 second video clip if it will load. Think I got several issues going on with the right side including a welded up spindle, maybe shimmed ? The previous owner was quite the fixer upper. Didn't feel any loose bolts or egged out holes, both hubs could use bearings. Probably take the tire off later today and check things out. JAinVA 4,638 #5 Posted June 9, 2020 You have bearing/hub issues.This could be caused by a worn spindle,or hub or bearings.You probably have an issue with all three.The steering arm to spindle weld is broken as well so look from the bottom as you do the left to right slop test.I definitely see that the arm is moving relative to the spindle. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rustyedge1 176 #6 Posted June 10, 2020 Right about the spindle arm weld, thats probably what let loose when mowing last and the steering went wild. Hub bearings do need replaced, anyone have the number, also spindle number. Any good ideas on getting the back hub bearing out. The left side isn't as bad as the right facing machine.
