Mickwhitt 5,038 #1 Posted June 7, 2020 Hi all. I have drilled a new fuel tank outlet in my plastic tank and need to source gaskets to seal the new outlet in place. I used some sheet fibre I had laid round but it leaks. Can I use inner tube rubber or will it be damaged by the gas?
ebinmaine 70,996 #2 Posted June 7, 2020 Depends on the compound the rubber is made of. Most tire inner tubes won't withstand gas or oil for long. It MIGHT get you by for a bit... Best best is to source a correct sized grommet of proper material for permanent use.
RandyLittrell 3,894 #3 Posted June 7, 2020 This is what I bought for my 310-8 and I am assuming it would work on most plastic tanks with the proper hole size. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HR6K547/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Randy
wallfish 17,578 #4 Posted June 7, 2020 But if you still have a leaking issue you can buy a tube of Seal All. Fuel resistant and stays pliable.
Tractorhead 9,103 #5 Posted June 7, 2020 I dunno what kind of seal you need but on my 212 horse there is just a rubberpart put in and the valve stick just in, otherwise I simply uses a standart rubber seal set and find the closesd match. This Rubberseals are common for Water Plumbing or fixing water tap’s but also resits Fuel and Diesel. If it a screwed outlet i insert one gasket on the inside one outside a thin washer and lightly pressed with the nut, not too thighten, otherwise the seal starts flee and it dribbs. Just a bit more than strong hand tight. never had issues with that solution.
Mickwhitt 5,038 #6 Posted June 8, 2020 I stripped the tank fitting down, soft soldered the brass washer in place and refitted it with two fibre washers. No leaks so I was using the right material but not fitting it right. Mick
