lobo 22 #1 Posted June 6, 2020 (edited) I have a C-100 that has sat over the winter and now is not charging. Took the rectifier and ammeter plate off and cleaned the posts off and on reinstalling it noticed it sparks where the bolts are. Is this normal? Never noticed it before. I started it before I tried to reinstall the plate and it is still not charging, any thoughts on why? I put my electrical tester on it and it shows current to and from rectifier while running, nothing while shut off, does that mean that the amp gauge is faulty? pfrederi 18,566 #2 Posted June 6, 2020 Clean the mounting bolts and where they contact the hood stand. The regulator must be grounded sounds like yours has a problem. The ammeter and regulator/rectifier plate isn't getting good ground which is absolutely necessary to complete a circuit in a DC system. Also try connecting both ammeter wires to the same terminal thereby bypassing the ammeter. It's a possibility it's bad. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Just take one of the wires off of one of the studs from the ammeter and put it on the other one with the other wire. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Tractorhead 9,198 #6 Posted June 7, 2020 As Eric allready mentioned only change one wire on the Ammeter from one side to the other, because it’s in row to you mainwire, if you do it like Eric told, all function will work further except the display of the Ammeter itself. I'm not at all a fan of ammeters and when they are in one of my tractors I swap them out for a voltmeter. A shorted ammeter can be very very dangerous.
