Cub Cadet announced it will be closing it's Brownsville, Tennessee plant in July. Production there will be moved to other MTD facilities.

I thought MTD already owned the name and built the tractors?

MTD does own the name, but the Brownsville plant is where the top of the line units were built. A little background - MTD bought the Cub Cadet line in 1981 and formed the CCC (Cub Cadet Corporation). The first units were still made in the IH plant in Louisville, Kentucky. The CCC units that were sold at new CCC dealers were painted yellow and white. IH ag dealers got red units. The Brownsville plant was built in 1985 just for the CCC. The last units built there where the GT2500 series and the 3000 series garden tractors. The lesser units were made in another MTD plant(s) alongside other MTD brands.

But that's not really the issue, but that like all the other companies, a plant is being closed - hence the topic title. :omg:

Here's a link to the story of the closing: http://www.jacksonsun.com/article/20090507...ONTPAGECAROUSEL

This is kind of off topic maybe but do you know what Cub cadet did in the compact tractor lineup? I believe the older tractors were built by Mitsubishi then Im not sure who built the later line that included a gas engine tractor. Now they sell a Yanmar tractor. I had assumed, since Yanmar pulled out of the US market years ago and built JD tractors, that JD had some lock on Yanmar products sold here. Just something I had wondered about but never looked into. :omg:

Sort of how Bob Cat's new compact utility tractor is made by Kioti. Just different paint and decal scheme. Prices are pretty reasonable though.
