I have a toro wheel horse 416 h, with a p216 onan engine I it and I am having a problem with it. my problem is that I am cutting on a little bit of an incline it stops and sputters. but if I cut on flat level grass it cuts fine. what would cause that?

please please any help. I want to fix this tractor.

Welcome to the forum.

When the pto is engaged the seat switch powers the ignition. I suspect wear in the seat hardware or switch mounting is allowing the switch to open. If it is a button switch try adding a few layers of rag or something soft to tighten up the button clearance to see if it eliminates the problem. Some switches have a threaded mount that can be adjusted.

Welcome to Red Square ! When it sputters are you traveling up hill ? If so it may be a fuel pump issue. I am not the best to ask but more qualified folks here will be able to better diagnose the problem.

Depending on the year of your 416 the seat switch may be inside the seat foam padding (1992 and newer I think). If the seat is not in good condition the switch can become a bit touchy, had that problem but a new seat cured it. Part # 23 in this drawing.

My 1989 520 did that if the ground was a little rough. It still had the seat switch down on the seat pan, but the plastic  button on the seat switch was almost worn down to nothing. New seat switch fix that.

I had the same maddening problem with my 314-h.  It was the seat switch.
