JJMason84 3 #1 Posted May 27, 2020 Engine starts runs rough, turns over but won’t stay running for some reason. Any thoughts? New plug, condenser, coil, fuel pump and filer

squonk 43,821 #8 Posted May 28, 2020 If you have the carburetor off they are behind the plate that was to the left of the carb held on with a single bolt. There are 2 gaskets and a baffle inside plus you need to know what you are doing in there and the parts have to go back in exactly as they come out. I wouldn't bother if you don't know what you're doing. Dollars to doughnuts it was the crappy carb.
953 nut 60,013 #9 Posted May 28, 2020 Can you fill us in on some of the background. Has this engine run well lately or did you just get it and are getting it going? More than likely it is the Carburetor. The gap on your ignition points also sets the ignition timing, you may want check it again. If you have access to an automotive timing light that is the best way co assure the points are set properly.

I consider cleaning a carburetor on a small engine to be a maintenance item. Best way to do a carb clean is to soak it. If you don't have a way to do that, no worries. Pick up 3 cans of cheap carb cleaner or brake clean. I use brake clean because it's easier to get for less money in my area. Get a hold of a toothbrush. Might not want to reuse it after you do this or just make sure it belongs to your significant other, not you. Disassemble, remove the jets etc. Clean it until you think it is 99.9% spotless and then clean it again. I normally reserve one full can of brake clean to spray every possible which way and back again through all the galleys. 10 minutes ago, squonk said: Dollars to doughnuts it was the crappy carb. JJMason84 3 #12 Posted May 28, 2020 Thanks! I just got it, previous person said they did this. Of course not. It ran great then shut off after 2hrs or so of using it with the loader. So it was hot. Most recently the old tank ran dry of gas (prob sucked up stuff into the carb) and the front hydrolic pump belt broke , since then it runs rough when it’s actually running
JJMason84 3 #13 Posted May 28, 2020 A good old carb cleaning did the trick! Now to see if it stalls when it gets hot! Loo
