WHNJ701 4,165 #1 Posted May 27, 2020 anyone ever use these little 15 dollar chips to eliminate the points and condenser? I see they are cheaper than buying a set pnts/cndser. dude on you tube can install in less than 2 minutes. I am all for preserving original on these tractors, my big issue is owning too many tractors and not enough time to run them, and then when I want too it's always something like the points got dirty etc...

I have not used these on a Kohler so I'm of no value with those. I have used them on cast iron Briggs & Stratton, on those engines you have to move the coil to adjust the timing. Once installed it was trouble free.

Achto 29,402 #4 Posted May 27, 2020 Single magnet flywheel. I have found that changing to a solid state coil is an even better choice. Not sure what to do with the 2 magnet flywheels. I haven't encountered one yet.
WHNJ701 4,165 #6 Posted May 27, 2020 we will see what happens, ordered a 1 magnet flywheel and new coil for a post 1964 briggs, and one of these kits. see what happens. hopefully this conversion helps. part of the issue of this is owning 12 of these older style pre 1964 engines with these non existing expensive 3 leg coils
edgro 680 #7 Posted May 27, 2020 What's the trigger, and how is it timed? On one YouTube video he mounted it on the points cover, don't see how that could possibly work??
