gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #2 Posted May 26, 2020 Have you tried to disconnect the ignition wire in case one of the safety features on the tractor has failed? Engine service manual help? Garry
Tractorhead 9,198 #3 Posted May 27, 2020 The 212 Series has 2 Safety Switches on one the Seat that acts if engine is running and mowerdeck is engaged, anotherone that is at neutral for Start the Engine. both go on relay‘s they interconnected as safety logic. maybe one of the relay coils is done. Check with neutral setting with you on the Seat by switch ignition on ( no start) you must hear a Realy clicking, if you now engage the Electric Clutch, you hear the other relay acting if you stand up from the seat. that is a simple proof without needed measurement tools. if that seems working, check the fuses, on mine there was 2 Fuses in, a 5Amp for the ignition relay and a 15Amp for the Electronic Clutch. Both must be intact to fire up the Engine, because they handle also the Relay‘s. If you don‘t hear a Relay switching, on mine both relay‘s on passenger side behind the lower black hood, close to the Steering Shaft. Both are Standart automotive changeover relay‘s. Another issue i found on mine was a rotten Pin on the PTO Switch. i grinded a bit to clean it up, put a little Vaseline on it and since it works like the first Day. I hope that helps you
Terry T 1 #4 Posted May 27, 2020 the engine cranks just fine, so I do not believe it is the switches
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #5 Posted May 27, 2020 The starter and ignition are two separate circuits. You need to disconnect the dark blue wire at the engine and see if the spark returns. You can waste a lot of time and money guessing where the problem is. Garry
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #6 Posted May 28, 2020 Added a 2nd corrected wiring diagram above hoping they would end up side by side. First off I think I used the wrong ignition switch in the first illustration. In 1990 the 212-H used B&S, Kawasaki and Onan engines but they do not all use the same switch. Only an original parts list will tell us and we do not have one. The Accessory circuit was powered by the main circuit through a 15 amp fuse. The ignition switch Accessory terminal powers the 15 amp fuse. (Top left corner) The start relay was not illustrated correctly. Garry
