Tach-a-matic help

I don't understand how this thing works.  Is mine installed correctly?  Is it just the weight of the deck pulling down on the two little notched plates that holds it into the mechanism?  Feels like it should lock more secure somehow.

Is the set of plates with he round notches supposed to be flipped the other way so we the spring pin is push it can swing down to lock the bar of the deck lift bar into place?

Look for the manual for your deck(?) on this web site. It will give you step by step instructions with illustrations. The front tach-a-matic operation is not obvious to me but it works very well!

Here is the manual for installing decks.  36 42 and 48...all the same setup and lift mechanism.  Pay PARTICULAR attention to the FORK imake here.

Take one side plate off and turn item # 17 around so the longer arm is on the left side.

Gary that is what I was seeing too....thanks for confirming.  I've found a bunch of little things like this on the machine the first owner never had right.

thanks for these diagrams they are super helpful...all the manuals for the mower decks were too grainy for me to really see what the setup was supposed to look like.  I think this is enough for me to get it on correctly.  Thanks guys.   Now i just have to get my grease point problem fixed and i should be ready to go.

one other thing I found last night was that the front mounting shaft in fork were bolted on so tight that they would not rotate.  I think that's part of the reason why I was having a hard time getting the more deck to clip into the tachomatic

The spring on the mid hitch gets weak after years of use. I had the 48" deck fall off twice in 30 minutes one hot July day. Here is what the little hole on the hitch is for.

The early "Quick hitch had that hole. When I was little my day used twine to keep the hitch closed on the 604. :)

i'm probably putting that pin in there just for the cheap insurance of not dropping a deck will cruising around the yard.
