Goldnboy 1,034 #1 Posted May 25, 2020 Can someone explain the purpose of this small belt guard? I am thinking it is for when using a rear tiller?
pfrederi 18,685 #2 Posted May 25, 2020 It is to support the drive belt when you depress the clutch and it helps force the slack forward to the engine drive pulley so the belt stops.... On some models the belt guard had a support strip spot welded to the inside of the guard to do the same thing.
Lee1977 7,214 #3 Posted May 25, 2020 It's part of the belt guard. 1977 back the belt guard extended to the top and bottom of the transmission drive pulley it went on first and the foot pad went on out side of it. When they changed designs to the black hood the food pad went on first and the belt was bolted to it so the added that piece below the foot pad to extend the bottom of the belt guard. The 300, 400 and 500 are te same.
Goldnboy 1,034 #4 Posted May 26, 2020 So what your saying is the drive belt goes under the bottom guide not on top?
