tntatro 181 #1 Posted May 23, 2020 Hello, I have an hour meter I'd like to install in place of the ammeter on my Raider 12. On the ammeter, one wire goes to the battery and the other to the key switch, how do I wire it for the hour meter?
pfrederi 18,566 #2 Posted May 23, 2020 (edited) What kind of ignition system does your Raider have? Maybe Magneto, Battery Points or possibly breakerless Edit Also is you r key switch 3 or 4 position. Edited May 23, 2020 by pfrederi

tntatro 181 #4 Posted May 23, 2020 I think the key switch is three position.
pfrederi 18,566 #5 Posted May 23, 2020 If it is points with you can tap the ignition wire "I" terminal to the + on the coil. The other hour meter terminal to groud. You will have to run the ammeter wire directly to the "B" terminal on the switch.

So I splice the + terminal on the hour meter into the wire that goes from the ignition to the + on the coil, and ground the - on the hour meter. I was going to remove the ammeter unless it needs to be installed for some reason. The hour meter looks like it will fit directly where the ammeter is currently located. tntatro 181 #7 Posted May 23, 2020 Are you saying to run the wire that was to the ammeter directly from the battery (solenoid) to the B on the ignition since I will be removing the ammeter?
pfrederi 18,566 #8 Posted May 23, 2020 Yes. You are also going to bypass the ammeter. You can just put together the two wires that went to the back of the ammeter.

Okay, I think I get it now. Thanks a lot. I'll try that when I get a chance. Edited May 23, 2020 by tntatro
