It's just cluttering up their yard so I would be doing them a favour taking it away. Hopefully the UK spec has the better gearbox, that would be great. Thanks for all the help. My wife said I can have it if it's free, or I sell the laser L95 that's sitting in the garage. Better get that laser up for sale asap!

lynnmor 7,858 #35 Posted May 20, 2020 I promised myself that I will never buy another Onan that spent much time outdoors. I wouldn't consider that purchase if the engine was what you want.

Yeah I regularly drive long hauls without thinking about it, but we were brought up in less populated areas, whereas over here one town almost touches the next in some places. I used to jump on my motorbike and do a 5 hour round trip just for a quick cup of tea with my brother back in NZ, mostly just as an excuse to get out on the bike. The size of America is mind blowing! I thought Australia was pretty big but you guys just have land forever and ever. Still waiting on the lady to get back to me, got a five hour drive home from work this morning so hopefully she will have made a decision by the time I get home.

I figured if it wont run that I would at least have a parts machine, maybe pick up a similar one when I get out of the doghouse Is the Onan a bit precious about how it is looked after? The Kohlers seem bullet proof, both of mine lived outside for years and seem none the worse for the experience. This would be my third Wheelhorse in as many months so my wife is getting a bit annoyed! better start making her one look pretty now that I have it running properly - that should keep her happy.
Stormin 9,985 #40 Posted May 21, 2020 I certainly wouldn't pay £200 for a non runner. It'd be £50 max. If the engine's kaput, you'd get your money back in spares.

I think it's gone already, lady said a guy is coming to look at it this morning. Would have been a useful parts machine and agree, if it's a non runner who knows what's wrong with it. Could just be a blown fuse or a rod through the crankcase.... I don't need it anyway so maybe it selling will be the best thing for me!
lynnmor 7,858 #42 Posted May 21, 2020 Removing rusted screws from an Onan can be impossible without destroying things. I have wasted tools, time and parts working on scrapped Onans.
Dan.gerous 2,696 #43 Posted May 21, 2020 The 416-8 didn't sell, so now I have a dilemma!

kasey54 305 #46 Posted May 21, 2020 Looks like it lived in the weather a long time. Odds are the shift boot /dustcover has failed and allowed water into the gearbox. I have bought a few that way and never regretted it. It can be a bargaining chip if you show the owner.
