danweikert21 166 #1 Posted May 20, 2020 I want to put a sediment bowl on my wheel horse. Im trying to go for the old IH tractors which have them. I don't know if I have to have any special fittings.
ebinmaine 72,569 #2 Posted May 20, 2020 What type of horse Dan? if it's one with a metal tank you should have a threaded fitting in the bottom of the tank. I want to say it's like a quarter inch npt. Just find a sediment bowl that has the fitting on the top and there should be room below the tank shelf for that bowl. Change ALL your fuel line while you're in there. I've switched over to use clear blue fuel line.
danweikert21 166 #3 Posted May 20, 2020 I have a raider 10 with a plastic fuel tank and that's where Im stuck because Im not quite sure how to attach a bowl to that. Maybe I could buy a metal tank.
squonk 43,778 #4 Posted May 20, 2020 Unless you want the look ,you are better off without the sediment bowl. They are fragile and they leak all the time.I usually take them off. I have 2 in my classified. I believe one of them is 1/4" female pipe thread.
Cvans 1,009 #5 Posted May 20, 2020 Mike is right about the sediment bowls being a pain. You over tighten them and the housing warps and then they leak like a sieve. If your careful when servicing them they work OK. Don't be temped to use a pair of pliers on the nut when reinstalling the bowl. If you want to use a float bowl try and find one that is remotely mounted. You can mount it anywhere. Get a couple of hose barbs and your set to go. Found this on Amazon. edgro 680 #6 Posted May 20, 2020 Could remote mount on a standoff bracket or something like that
WHX?? 51,732 #7 Posted May 20, 2020 (edited) I hate to say it but Squonk is right for once.... All mine leak too but still old skool cool! ones are 1/8 NPT top feed and 10 bucks on fleabay all day but will not work on the plastic tanks. You probably just have the plastic nipple off the bottom so what the boys above mentioned is yer best bet. Even then I would still run an inline filter. squonk 43,778 #8 Posted May 20, 2020 If I had a dollar for every sediment bowl gasket I sold in my Napa days, I'd have more tractors and toys than Jim! 1
pfrederi 18,644 #9 Posted May 20, 2020 All my big tractors use them. I buy the gaskets in a 10 pack. All also have in line filters.

That's the problem no one makes a sediment bowl gasket that works any more. As my old Wheel Horse dealer used to say "The Road to Hell Is Paved With Plastic".
