Sailman 1,299 #1 Posted May 19, 2020 I bought a used GT 14 with aftermarket wheels. Same axle size 3/4 but no bearings. Bought a set of used wheels and tires which came off a GT 14. Seller also included some flat washers, 2 tapered bearings, 4 1/2 in spacers and castle nuts. ( I did not have original parts.) I was able to install 1 today with the 1/2 inch spacer on the spindle first, then the wheel with the inner bearing intact, then the tapered bearing and then the castle nut. No washers and only 1 spacer and I cannot get castle nut on far enough to put in cotter pin. If I tighten nut any more it binds the wheel. As is it feels fine. I am certain the spindles are original and seller confirms the wheels came off a GT 14. Could the 1/2 inch spacers not be correct? He included what he thought were parts I needed. GT 14 owners can you tell me the parts used on your tractor and the order they are installed on your front wheels? Thanks.
stevasaurus 23,307 #2 Posted May 19, 2020 Take a look at this thread...Aldon did just about anything you can imagine to his GT...if it does not help, it is good reading while we wait for answers.
pfrederi 18,714 #3 Posted May 19, 2020 No spacer item 148 is a seal. 146 and 147 are the bearing and race. 1
953 nut 60,359 #4 Posted May 19, 2020 No spacers on the front wheels of my GT-14. By the way, the long portion of the hub goes to the inside. 2
Sailman 1,299 #5 Posted May 20, 2020 Looks like the spacer is the problem. Seller of the wheels included them as I did not have original parts. Must have been from another tractor type. Also, keeping the valve stem to the outside. One more question. With the wheel off the tractor the inner bearing (closest to tractor) has some space between the seal and the race. I assumed that was for the spacer. Without the spacer does the spindle push through the seal to push the bearing against the race?
Sailman 1,299 #6 Posted May 25, 2020 Took the spacers out per comments here and the parts diagram. Kept valve stems to the outside, that put the seal onto the spindle first. Lots of grease and castle nut tightened just right. Works like a charm! Thanks for the help!!!
