Thank you for the pic. The second page bottom left pic doen't need a spring? Is that correct. That pic looks like what I have.

Thanks, Ernie

The top two and the bottom left pictures are of the same governor assembly that is used on most small K series engines.

The (torsion-style) spring is attached to the back of the governor arm by a screw and the "loose" end slides into the slot in the control disc.

The spring is connected to the disk... like in this pic.

I understand I think what you are saying. There is a small spring on the back side of the govenor arm. With a small screw to the top right side were the govenor comes threw the block. I loosened the govenor arm and turned the shaft to the left while holding the gov. open. I done that with the engine off. Know what gap should the points be set at?? The motor kinda sams to have a load on it like it is out of time. I guess I could buy a timing light and check that. But is there a standard gap?? This is my first engine I built from scratch. Its pretty straight forward but these little things seam to make them run much better. And thanks for everyones help!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Ernie :omg::drool: :drool:

The baseline setting for the points is .020"

Do you have a Kohler K series manual? If not, you can download one at

Kohler's website
