steelman 252 #1 Posted May 18, 2020 I have noticed oil pooling just below the wire going to the points. I’m assuming there is a gasket behind the red cover that needs replaced but I haven’t pulled it off yet. Can someone confirm this and advise exactly what is behind this cover? This is a K341 on aC160.
squonk 43,819 #3 Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) The cam gear is behind that cover. Looking at your pic oil could be coming from that or your points cover, governor shaft or your fuel pump. Clean up everything and recheck Edited May 18, 2020 by squonk
kwalshy 237 #4 Posted May 18, 2020 Yes there is a gasket behind that cover.
pfrederi 18,670 #5 Posted May 18, 2020 Valve cover gaskets leak far more often than camshaft cover. Fuel pump is also a hot item for leaks. Valve cover has 2 gaskets. you need to replace both. Like Squonk said clean it up and then check again.
steelman 252 #6 Posted May 18, 2020 Thanks for the replies guys...I don’t believe it is the fuel pump and had not thought about the governor shaft. Where would be a good source for those gaskets or do you make them up from gasket material? The tractor is at a property an hour away so I don’t get there but every week or so. I do hope to get up there to mow this week if it ever quits raining.
kwalshy 237 #7 Posted May 18, 2020 Gasket sets for these engines are readily available online. I did not need to make any up on my own for a recent rebuild.
