dgjks6 6 #1 Posted May 5, 2009 Well this is what I did all winter: And then the weather got nice and my wheel horse problem started again. So I was doing my usual craigslist search and found something. Finally bit the bullet and got it. Now my wife says I have to sleep in the garage: It is a 312-8 with a complete front harness: And a horn: And a bird poop covered steering knob: And the all important rear flashing light: Well, I put a battery in it and it started right up. But I am going to need all of the expertise here to get it running right. First problem - no choke - it is not hooked up. You have to manually open and close it Second - no air filter or cover Third - None of the lights work Fourth - none of the gauges work Fifth - needs a new seat Sixth - mower deck mows way to low - need to figure out how to adjust it
Don1977 604 #2 Posted May 5, 2009 On your mower deck, the height adjustment lever is broken or missing. It should be at the highest position with the pin in the top hole where it is, but the rear wheels are positioned at the next to the lowest height. My guess is the channel was broken and welded back in the wrong position.
jusjeepn 59 #3 Posted May 6, 2009 Your height adjustment is the 2 bolts at the rear of the frame. Turn them in (down) and you'll raise the deck.
MaineDad 85 #4 Posted May 6, 2009 Nice find. I have always wanted one of those front mount assemblies...
Stigian 1,234 #6 Posted May 6, 2009 Sleeping in the garage is a small price to pay for having a 312 with front cutting deck. Cuddle up to the 312, you know you want too A great find there, can't beat a 312..
dgjks6 6 #7 Posted May 6, 2009 So I had a chance to try to mow today. Let me tell you what I found. This tractor is twice as fast as my other 312. Anyone have any idea why? I know it is not the same kohler engine. Mine is a magnum and this 312 is a little older than my 89.

linen beige 14 #9 Posted May 7, 2009 It's trying to catch the mower deck (think "carrot on a stick").
Duff 206 #10 Posted May 8, 2009 Have a look at the drive pulley on the tranny - maybe it was switched for a smaller one? Duff :omg:
