Over in the UK weren’t Wheel Horses re-branded as Mountford (or something like that)? Did that company specify that they were to be painted green?

Wheel Horse had a factory in Belgium. Mountfield imported them into the UK and badged some of them as Mountfields. My C-121 and C-81 are Belgium built and badged Wheel Horse. The C-125 was USA built.

I've never seen a green Mountfield.

It's currently up to 680 dollars which is too rich for me based on the type of machine it is.

Must be some collectors over here if it's a rare one and worth it.

Finally went for 560 GBP

Quite a lot for something that didnt appear to be very good.

Seen some go much lower.

The hunt continues lol

Something will turn up, Mick.  Patience is a virtue. Seldom possessed by man, and never by a woman.

Correction to my post above. Though the C-81 is a Wheel Horse, the serial number is a Mountfield one.

I got a well used C-125 with a rotovator, mowing deck and a bunch of useful spares for about that price.

She is a bit rough, but everything works and its a solid little machine - and its already been earning its keep, probably do a light restoration this winter if I have enough free time :-)

read my previous message, none were made green - some folks just like green :)

90% were imported by Mountfield - irrespective of where they were made...  my GT14 and one of my C-121 are US built, but have Mountfield plates. They weren't branded or sold as Mountfield - unlike Murray mowers which they imported in the late 70's/80's and branded them Mountfield. We've had a few 7/25's - I cut my teeth on one of those mowing half an acre every week when I was 10.

The side plate on the Wheel Horses is purely for them to maintain a record of what they imported and sold. Lots of machinery over the years has been tagged like this. Land Rovers are have a chassis number SALVxxxxxx but people like Bowler, Twisted,Khan, will give them unique numbers to track them.
