wheelwhores 107 #1 Posted May 11, 2020 I have an inside track on a very inexpensive Charge 8 automatic. sheetmetal looks to be in good shape, but has no be used 'for years'. It has what looks to be a 36" mower deck on it which i've been looking to get for my C175, so i'm probably going to purchase it just for that, but what else should i look for in terms of warning signs when i go look? I don't want just a parts machine. My though it clean out the fuel system and carb, new gas, oil and tranny fluid and new plugs and battery and my hunch is it will start. What are peoples thoughts? What can you tell me about the Charge 8's capabilities. It would probably be my summer mower and i may put a 1 stage blower on it in the winter as a supplement to my c175 plow setup for smaller spot cleaning. Thanks guys! wheelwhores 107 #2 Posted May 11, 2020 engine looks to be original Tecumseh, says solid state ignition, am i correct in assuming this means no points?
Ed Kennell 42,187 #3 Posted May 11, 2020 I am not aware of a Charger 8. There is a Charger V7 with a V70 Tecumseh. Also a Charger 9 that has a HH110 Tecumseh. So, I am not sure what tractor it is, but IMO, 12 HP is the minimum required to operate a snow blower. If it is a vertical engine, the deck will not mount on a C series. The solid state Tecumseh ignition would not have contact points.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,523 #5 Posted May 11, 2020 The Charger V7 and V8 are vertical crankshaft models and considered a lawn tractor as opposed to garden tractor. The mower deck spindles rotate counter-clockwise so deck has a left side exhaust. The left hand blades are also no longer available. Garry

It had the Tecumseh VH80-148001 engine and the Eaton 6 transmission with a strange frame system. I happen to have one of these. As Garry said, the vertical crank tractors were designed for lawn mowing only. The deck and some other implements will not work on a horizontal engine garden tractor.
