Niwroc 0 #1 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) Photos.zipI have a vertical 36" RD I want to convert for use on a horizontal. I have also got the horizontal 36" RD. I know I can covert the hardware over. Questions I have. Will the front wheel on the vertical deck be OK to leave or do I need to cut it off and have the front wheel from the horizontal deck welded on it? I can cut away the unneeded part on the upper half. Also I know I need to cut rear wheels off to put the horizontal deck wheels on the vertical deck but will leaving those mid wheels be ok or do I need to Remove those too? Was thinking on leaving them to help from scalping. Also If I were to cut back behind the front wheel of the horizontal deck like 6 inches straight across I could remove vertical deck front wheel n bracket and grind it smooth and put the other nose right over the other deck nose and weld it in place? The vertical deck has had some welding in that area. Edited April 29, 2020 by Niwroc
JoeM 8,350 #2 Posted April 29, 2020 I have done one and completely converted it..... Just because I knew i wasn't going back. I trimmed the top off level.
Stepney 2,354 #3 Posted April 29, 2020 I've done a few too. Just trim the top of the front wheel hanger, and rig the pulleys into the correct positions. Add a double pulley to the center. No biggie.
Niwroc 0 #4 Posted April 29, 2020 How about my idea to cut original deck and grafting it to other deck. It would be an overlay so in essence it would be double thick in this area. The vertical deck has had some repair to that area. The horizontal deck is pretty solid in that area. I would clean it all up to bare metal and overlay the one over the other sandwiching epoxy between the two and clamp it in all directions then put 6 bolts, two on each end and two in the middle. Bolting face and top.
