bottjernat1 2,194 #1 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Wanted to share I traded a family friend My late dads old John Deere 67 112 round fender hydraulic lift for a 14 hp no name. I am happy with the trade and so is he. We just did an even swap no money at all. I am super happy to own this machine It has a good local back story as well. I was told the old GM dealership in ligoneer indiana bought it new and used it to plow snow not mow. that is why the deck is tiny. everything works as it should. I guess when it gets hot tho it losses compression and dies. it hasn't did it to me yet. but maybe with a good cleaning and fresh oil change and maybe look behind the crank breather i can hopefully figure it out. If anybody has some history about an old gm dealer in ligoneer I'm all ears! Also if someone could help and post the manuals for this i struggle trying to find manuals on here LOL. I measured the deck it is 36 inches across. I also have to rewire a few things. The lights are hooked into the key switch instead of the actual light switch. also did they add switches to this from the factory but not use them? It has a PTO switch mounted on the top of the dash and it isn't hooked up cause it has a manual lift. I will get a photo of the dash. bottjernat1 2,194 #2 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Is 80 90 gear oil ok? i see it calls for SAE 140 A.P.I GL 5? it has tiny bubbles in it i thought about flushing with kerosene and refilling with 80 90 but i will put what it says if i really should. Also does anybody have new blades for the deck i think the deck is a 5-0621. 36 inch rear discharge Edited April 27, 2020 by bottjernat1
Retired Wrencher 5,840 #3 Posted April 27, 2020 Good move. J/D are good tractors but now you own the easiest one to work on. Because of this they are the most popular because of this. Enjoy the tractor. You have a good year.
ebinmaine 73,006 #4 Posted April 27, 2020 Good trade. As much as I like the old round fendered tractors I think you got the better end of the deal for practicality reasons. That tractor was made in the last of the Pond family era. They were never known for wasting money so your switch is a bit of a mystery. They were however, known for using things left over from previous years. Judging by the wiring changes you have in place I would have to GUESS that someone in the past swapped a dash or something along that line. 80W 90 it's perfectly fine for that transmission. That's what I run in all of ours.
ebinmaine 73,006 #5 Posted April 27, 2020 And don't be concerned about the gl4, gl5 designation. If I remember correctly that's a chemical designation that pertains to softer metals. These transmissions are full steel including all the bearings.

The stupid techy motor on that deere i bought a new carb kit and rebuilt it before i took it to him and she was running good. when i got it to him it was running rough. But i dont think my dad ever had it running so i did get it running and it was missing its brake drum i didnt know till i swaped tires. i was floored by that one. and the axle hubs are bad. But I told him whatever he needed i will make good by him I have tons of parts.
bottjernat1 2,194 #7 Posted April 27, 2020 Are these the correct numbers for the blades? 9187 center blade, 9188 l and r blade or 8969 for a set? I am going to buy a new set! it is a 36 inch rear discharge I was told it is the original deck maybe a 5-0621?
