ebinmaine 71,359 #1 Posted April 25, 2020 Engine or transmission. My particular current need is a 1-7/16" bore with the smallest O.D. possible. I'm finding just under 7" is the low limit on a pulley for a B/5L 5/8" belt. I'd like to be closer to 4" because it's an engine pulley. I've checked fleabay, jungle site, general websites, Surplus sites, McMaster Carr, motion ind, others. Any other suggestions?

953 nut 58,697 #3 Posted April 25, 2020 I just took a look at W.W.Graiger and they didn't even have a 1 7/16" bore listed. Have you considered going from the engine to a jack shaft and then to the transmission?
squonk 43,013 #4 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) Why so small a pulley? You puttin a Detroit and Road Ranger in it? Edited April 25, 2020 by squonk

peter lena 9,155 #6 Posted April 25, 2020 do you have an industrial electrical supply near you ? the one near me has , belts, gear drives , shives and all types of adapters . also flanged bearings , and most important, people that know how to adapt to a mechanical problem. obviously this is old school thought , because you typically cannot find your answer. my experience, pete

Shynon 7,475 #8 Posted April 25, 2020 I have found in a Mills Fleet Farm in the farm section they have the center hub in many sizes with pulleys in many sizes that you weld together. Used them on my loader project. 1

I've found that I can get an SDS flange bushing and get a pulley as small as 4.5 inches. That is about as close as you can get. I 7/16" plus a B belt grove each side of 3/4" equals 2 15 /16". 4 1/2" - 2 15/16" equals 1 9/16" for bushing and pulley. If you have room for a Jack Shaft you can gear down there. peter lena 9,155 #10 Posted April 25, 2020 when replacing my big drive , rear pulley, i found a same size pulley with a larger bore, no problem , found a bearing insert with a 3/8" sleeve for perfect match fit . major advantage ? much larger bearing making for solid and smooth engagement. just my experience, pete
Tractorhead 9,111 #11 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) Take a look for Industry Standart Taper Pulley‘s they are available in single or double or tripple rows, each diameter and also sometimes combinated and there are not too expensive. i used them now on my Wheelhorse between the Engine Hydraulic and Hydraulic Tranny interconnection. I found it here under Optibelt Pulley‘s. the diameter of the Tapers are vary from 10mm up and be also available in inches. Take a closer look here optibelt guidance Edited April 25, 2020 by Tractorhead
wallfish 17,695 #12 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) Go with a split taper bushed bore hub and pulley. The taper is on the outside of the hub for the pulley, not for a tapered shaft. You can go as small as 3.15" https://www.surpluscenter.com/Power-Transmission/Pulleys/Split-Taper-Bushed-Bore-Pulley-Hubs/1-4375-Keyed-H-Bushing-1-2913-143.axd https://www.surpluscenter.com/Pulleys-V-Belts/Split-Taper-Bushed-Bore-Pulleys-Hubs/Split-Taper-Bushed-Bore-Pulleys/?page_no=1&fq=ATR_Grooves:1 Edited April 25, 2020 by wallfish 2
peter lena 9,155 #13 Posted April 26, 2020 tractorhead , i agree with your optibelt information , going to another source for parts , will let you complete your project . as a millwright , if i had to depend on only one source for a problem , i would never get the problem solved . just my own experience , pete

I think you missunderstood my intension. The Optibelt site i given, was just a suggestion for a start to search, not as a „must“ buy there. It was just a source i found real good illustrated, when i don‘t have much possibillities on the beginning with my first FEL Project. First time i used 2 Aluminum Pulley‘s, they normally for a Sewing machine and rework them on the Lathe, because they Cheap and i just need any source to get Started. So i ordered 5 different of the Alu pulley‘s but the don‘t last long. After i had an idea about the Gearing, i changed over to Taper Pulley‘s. The quickest and fastest result i have found was at Optibelt Website, but no doubt, there are other maybe cheaper or even better sources available. 👍
